£6.45 - £8.72 (National Living Wage dependant on age of candidate)

• 1 x Harthill Workshop, Lockerbie

The Communities Directorate, Dumfries and Galloway are offering an exciting opportunity for young people aged 24 and under who want to complete a Motor Engineering Modern Apprenticeship as well as to join our team as an Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technician.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience in working with the Council’s Vehicle Technicians with the day-to-day repair and maintenance of Fleet Vehicles.

The Apprenticeship is for 4 years and you will complete the City and Guild NVQ Level 3 Qualification - HGV Technician. You will attend GTG College in Glasgow on block release and be expected to complete the qualification.

Successful applicants will get the chance to work alongside professional Fleet and Transport Services staff and your Apprenticeship will include the opportunity to:

• Access high quality training opportunities (including the potential to achieve your driving/HGV licence dependant on age/eligibility criteria)
• MOT Testing Course
• On the job work experience
• Gain qualifications and Continued Personal Development (CPD)
• Knowledge and Skills Development
• 1:1 support

You should be motivated and have an interest in trade skills and a career as a mechanic. You will be given the opportunity to work on light & heavy vehicles, as well as items of plant and equipment.

These posts are fixed term for 4 years initially.
