Main Duties and Responsibilities
Be able to work without supervision to carry out planned installation of domestic or industrial commercial pipe work and/or ductwork associated with components and systems.
Ensure that work progresses to plan and contract conditions
Be able to demonstrate a depth of technical knowledge of systems operating principles
Set, identify and establish the job requirements from drawings, specifications and other instructions contained in the site packs
Solve problems within scope of work and technical capabilities
Specify and monitor programmes for installing and commissioning systems
Commission and test systems
Report any supplier non-conformities to the foreman/supervisor
Complete all required paper work
In the case of work on gas installations, comply with relevant regulations
Interface, Reporting and Supervision
Liaise with other Craftsman and Senior Craftsmen
Liaise with other trades, suppliers and customers
Direct report to the site Foreman/Supervisor
Supervise and direct mates and labourers in the working group
Health, Safety & Environment
Be responsible for own health and safety
Be aware and comply with Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
Take reasonable care of personal health and safety and other persons who may be affected by activities carried out
Cooperate with the management team is assisting them to maintain safety and implement controls
Not to deliberately interfere with or misuse anything provided to maintain safety and to comply with legislation
Wear appropriate PPE on site (steel toe cap boots, gloves, high visibility vests, hard hat and company overalls and eye protection, if required)
Reports accidents and incidents to the Contract Manager
Take action in response to any dangerous conditions or actions through the issue a verbal STOP Work and report unsafe conditions and report to the Site/Contract Manager
Work in a safe and responsible manner
CSCS registered
Comply with the waste management and emergency procedures
Participate in risk assessments and carry out point of work risk assessments
Skills, Knowledge and Attributes
Demonstrate competence in the health, safety and environmental controls
Able to be work in a team
Knowledge of company management systems and controls
Qualification, Training and Competence
Before August 1998 – Completion of an NJIC approved apprenticeship and City and Guilds approved basic craft courses n H & V Fitting OR been already employed as a Craftsman in the industry (“Grandfathers” rights)
Before April 2000 – Completion of an Improvership (One year Qualification A or 18 months Qualification B)
Before May 1999 – Worked in industry of a minimum of 4 consecutive years and completed an apprenticeship approved by the NJIC OR completed a modern apprenticeship, OR competed Ductwork Installation training. Have the equivalent of:
NVQ/SVQ Level 2 and/or 3 – H & V Domestic Installation
NVQ/SVQ Level 2 and/or 3 – H & V Industrial & Commercial
Installation
HVCA Interim Certificate and/or NVQ/SVQ Level 3 – H & V Ductwork Installation
After 1st June 1999 – Worked in industry of a minimum of 4 consecutive years and completed an apprenticeship approved by the NJIC OR completed a modern apprenticeship, OR competed Ductwork Installation training. Have the equivalent of:
NVQ/SVQ Level 3 – H & V Installation
Note: All craftsmen are required to register their grade with the UK Register of HVACR Operatives
